Start HERE for Becoming a Wedding Planner (Answering all the FAQ's from YOU!)

Last week we talked about me a lot, and how I have started with Grit and Grace. This week, let’s talk about YOU! It is so exciting to hear that there are so many of you who are interested in entering the event and wedding world. I am here to hopefully assist you on making that first step, just from my own personal experience.



A while back I posted an Instagram story asking you to ask me any questions you may have for me. I have them saved and am answering them now!


“How old were you when you started?”

  • I was 18 when I assisted my first wedding.

“How did you get clients to price you in the beginning?”

  • We actually have different packages that clients get to choose from. We see what type of services they are looking for and offer our couples the package we think is the best fit!

“What did you do after high school that got you started?”

  • After high school, I interned with a local company that led me to working at Grit and Grace. You can read more about how I started here.

“How did you figure out everything that goes into a wedding?”

  • Practice! Experience! There is so much information that you can and should learn before going into the wedding industry, but there are things that you won’t learn until you personally go through them. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and to educate yourself at each event you attend.

“Did you start as an assistant? When did you take on your own clients?”

  • I did start as an assistant. I took on clients about a year into assisting for G & G. Now, I will assist, lead plan, do social media, or really any task that needs to get done! It is important to be flexible in this industry and be willing to help in any area.

What are your future goals in the industry?”

  • My goals in the industry are to have my own event company and continue to do what I love!

Those are all really great questions, ones that I have asked so many others in the industry as well. But, I have questions for you:

- What is inspiring you to join the wedding industry?

- Why do you think you are a good fit to be an event planner?

- How can you reach your dream goal this year?


These are a few questions that could be helpful to reflect on and lead you to even more questioning.


My advice? Dream big, and act on your dreams! There are always things that you can do to get involved today. Reach out to everyone you know or don’t know. Email the big company and ask to shadow or intern. Ask your school or church if there are any event opportunities to help with. The sky is the limit and if you are willing to work hard, I have full confidence that you will make it!!


Also, like I mentioned before, be willing to help in any capacity. This may seem silly to start as a banquet staff member at an event company or working for free at a few weddings, but the experience you will learn in these situations will help you lead better in the long run.
